COCHRAN, GA - The Knights had four teams in action over the weekend with women's volleyball, women's cross country, women's soccer, and men's soccer all in action on Saturday, September 29. The women's volleyball team defeated Brewton Parker 3-1 for their first conference win of the season and are now 2-6 with a record of 1-5 in SSAC play. The team took the first two sets before dropping the third and closing out the match in Mount Vernon with a 25-18 final set. The team will be at home in Macon on October 5 at 7PM to host Martin Methodist College then on Saturday, October 6 at 1PM hosting Bethel University.
Women's Cross Country participated in the University of North Georgia (UNG) Invitation on Saturday, September 29th which was held on the Gainesville campus of UNG. The team finished 11th overall out of 14 teams and was 2nd out of NAIA member schools behind Brenau University. The course was a 6K course with the top finisher from the Knights Maike Naegele at 25:31.83 placing her 29th out of 106 runners. The team point total was 265 with a total team time of 2:16:56.59 and average of 27:23.32 per runner. The teams next meet will be October 20 in Milledgeville, Ga. for the GCSU Invitational.
Women's Soccer had two matches over the past week with a win against (RV) Bethel University by a score of 1-0 on Thursday the 27th to start SSAC play at 1-0. The game winning goal came on a header by Miagh Downey assisted by Anna Hieronymous on a corner kick. The team hosted (7) Martin Methodist College on Saturday the 29th in a game which was a close 1-0 for the first 81 minutes and included a 35 minute lightning delay in the first half. The Redhawks eventually pulled away with 2 goals in the final 10 minutes for a 3-0 victory. The Knights travel to #16 University of Mobile (Ala.) and #2 William Carey University (Miss.) this week as they continue SSAC play. The next home game will be against Florida College on Thursday October 11 at 5PM and final home game of the season will be Thursday, October 18th against Dalton State College.
Men's Soccer was the final team to finish up the weekend. The team lost to (RV) Bethel University on Thursday the 27th and hosted Martin Methodist (7-4) on Saturday the 29th. The game was delayed just prior to kickoff for just over three hours due to lightning and kicked off at 6:45 PM after a scheduled 3:30 PM start. The Knights struck first on a gaol by John Crawley in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead. Martin Methodist got a goal in the 39th minute on a shot through traffic that hit the upper left corner to tie the game at 1 headed to halftime. Knight GK Tyler Brands had 7 saves in the game and Erik Ulloa Villa made a fantastic header save in the 38th minute to keep the game close throughout. The Redhawks scored a goal in the 86th minute to take a 2-1 lead and were able to hold on for the win. The men will travel with the women to #3 Mobile and #1 William Carey for matches this coming week and be back home on October 11 to host Florida College and 18th hosting Dalton State College.
