Owens's Walkoff in 11th Leads Baseball Over #3 Georgia Gwinnett

COCHRAN, GA - Baseball got a solo home run to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th and a walkoff single in the 11th to take down the #3 Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies on Wednesday the 27th by a 5-4 final.  This was the 9th meeting between the Knights and Grizzlies since the Knights moved to the NAIA in the 2015 season and the first time the home team has won a game in the series.  The win puts the Knights at 11-3 on the season with Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play opening for the Knights on Friday, March 1.

The Knights jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when Zach Cornell doubled home Robbie Hanlon.  The Grizzlies answered with a walk followed by a double in the top of the 2nd to tie the game at 1.  The Grizzlies got to starter Kyle Anderson again in the 4th sending a run home on a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead.  Anderson pitched 4.0 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks with 3 strikeouts before giving way to Logan Carter.  The Knights got a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 3-2 lead as MJ Rookard and Guner Sellers led off the inning with back-to back singles followed by a walk to Chris Burgess.  Jacob Durant hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2 and pinchrunner Jordeyn Lewis scord on walkd pitch for the Knights to take the lead.  Carter gave up one run in 4.0 innings of work with 7 Ks, 3 hits, and 2 walks but hit 4 batters including a bases loaded hit-by-pitch for the Grizzlies to tie the game in the 7th.  Both teams stranded a pair of runners in the 8th including Cornell throwing out the go-ahead run at the plate to end the top of the 8th.  Tyler Goddard took over in the 9th for Carter and only got 0.1 innings before loading the bases on a pair of walks and a single leading to a sacrifice fly to take the lead after Jackson Braden took over to end the inning.  Former Knights pitcher Brent Burgess came on for the Grizzlies in the 9th and, after getting a ground out to start the inning, Blake Jackson took him deep to left for his 7th home run of the season and tied the ball game at 4.  The Knights got the winning run to 3rd before Chris Burgess flied to center for the final out off his twin brother Brent.  Neither scored again until the Knights loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th on back-to-back-to-back walks and Owens came to the plate to single home the winning run.  Jackson Braden threw 2.2 innings with 4 strike outs and 2 hits to earn the win.  Jakcson, Cornell, and Durant each had 2 hits in the game while Hanlon scored two runs including the winning run.

The Knights host Loyola University (LA) on Friday, March 1st for a doubleheader starting at 3PM and a single game on Saturday the 2nd starting at 1PM as the open SSAC play.
