Baseball Opens Series with 8-2 Win Over Brewton-Parker College

COCHRAN, GA (By Ethan Money) - The Knights baseball team was able to win the opening game of the series against the Brewton-Parker Barons 8-2 in a game that was moved up a day due to threatening rain. Preston Sparks pitched 7.2 innings giving up two earned runs on ten hits and six strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the season. Zach Cornell went 3-4 as he was able to find his hitting stroke again pushing his batting average to .429 on the season.  The team's record now stands at 33-11 on the season and 16-6 in SSAC play with 5 games remaining before the SSAC Tournament.

Trent Nash started the game off with a single and Robbie Hanlon was able to put down a bunt as both runners moved up on the throwing error by the Barons catcher. Cornell doubled down the left field line to bring both runners in. MJ Rookard walked and Jacob Durant drove in Cornell with a single as the Knights got three runs in the first inning.

Chris Burgess and Trent Nash led off the second inning with back-to-back home runs as the Knights were able to push the lead to five runs. All was quiet until the sixth inning when the Barons got two runs off a home run from Peyton Nobles but the Knights were able to answer back in the bottom of the inning with two runs on Blake Jackson's home run and added another in the seventh as Durant singled, stole second, moved over on a throwing error and came home on a wild pitch for an 8-2 lead.

The Knights will look to take the final two games of the series against the Barons on Senior Day Saturday the 20th starting at 1.
