Baseball Powers Past Martin Methodist Behind 4 Home Runs

PULASKI, TN - The 10th ranked baseball team traveled to Martin Methodist for 3-game series which rain forced to move up to an 11am start local time and the Knights were ready to play defeating the Red Hawks 8-4 in the game.  The Knights got a solid start from starter Preston Sparks with 6.0 innings scattering 8 hits and allowing just one run while striking out 5 and 0 walks.  Zach Cornell went 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs to give him 12 on the season.  Trent Nash was 4 for 4 with a homer and Guner Sellers was 3 for 4 with a homer.  

Nash led off the game with a single but that was all for the Knights in the 1st and the Red Hawks stranded 2 in the bottom of the inning.  Cornell doubled to lead off the 2nd and came home on MJ Rookard's single for a 1-0 lead.  The Knights opened it up in the 3rd as Blake Jackson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 and Cornell hit a 3-run shot followed 2 batters later by a solo job for Sellers, his 2nd of the season.  The Red Hawks got 3 hits with 2 outs in the 3rd to plate a run but stranded 2 and trailed 6-1 after 3.  The Knights struck again on Nash's solo homer, his 6th of the year, for a 7-1 lead after 6 complete.  Cornell led off the 7th with a solo shot for the 8-1 lead and Sparks gave way to Drew Martens in the 7th.  The Red Hawks got to Martens for a pair of runs on 3 hits in the 7th and then got another run on a home run by Riley Phillips in the 8th to trail 8-4.  Alex Snider took over for Martens after 1.1 innings of work and finished the final 1.2 innings.  Snider got 3 strike outs including the final 2 outs and allowed just a single in his appearance.

The Knights improve to 36-11 on the season and 19-6 in SSAC play with the win.  The win also solidifies the 2-seed for the SSAC Tournament which starts on Wednesday May 1 in Montgomer, AL and will ahe to wait the completion of games to determine the opening game opponent for the Knights as 5 teams are all within 2 games of the 3-7 seeds.  As currently scheduled, all SSAC games will finish by Friday the 26th with the exception of 1 to be played on the 27th.
