COCHRAN, GA - In only two short years, Head Coach Allie Jones has established a presence on the national stage for MGA's Equestrian Program. Sarah Andrews Rucker, won the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's (IHSA) Semi Finals in Ocala, Florida on March 17 and is headed to Syracuse, New York to compete at the IHSA National Championship. Being one of the top 12 riders across the country in her division has required commitment and many hours of practice, but she is quick to say thanks, "I'm grateful for all of the help from my family, coach, and teammates."
An accomplished rider, Sarah Andrews had always thought about showing horses and was thrilled when MGA's Equestrian program was launched. She currently attends MGA as a dual-enrolled student, finishing her junior year of high school while earning college credit at MGA. Long term, she wants to become a veterinarian.
Head Coach Jones has quickly put Middle Georgia's program on the map, establishing a team, identifying leaders, and establishing high standards for the program. The team placed fourth in the IHSA's Regional Finals in its first year (2017-18) and in the second year, saw that success grow exponentially with an appearance at Nationals. "I am so proud of our team. We are a young program and going up against such stronger, more experienced teams that began 20 or 25 years ago. It's really exciting to see this happen."
Sarah Andrews will compete on Sunday, May 5th. The competition will be live streamed. Links and other information will be posted at www.MGAKnights.com when available.
