COCHRAN, GA - The Knights capped their week with a 2-0 record and moved their record to 4-0-1 in the last 5 games with a 3-0 win over the Albany State University Rams on Sunday. The team got a pair of goals from Miagh Downey and a late goal from Brandy Ann Wacker accounting for their scoring. Ronja Andersson played 79 minutes with 2 saves before giving way to her backup. The team is now 4-3-1 on the season with one more game before beginning SSAC play in two weeks.
Downey scored the first goal in the 22nd minute sliding in a corner kick from Natalie Skorupa past the Rams goalie for a 1-0 lead. In the 30th minute, Hannah Theriault had a throw-in which was headed by Pernille Kelm to Downey for a header past the keeper and a 2-0 lead. The score remained there as Andersson extended her streak without a goal against to 217 minutes and 39 seconds over three games. Wacker extended the Knights lead to 3-0 with a shot from about 30 yards out which was misplayed by the Rams goalie and went through her legs.
The goals by Downey and Wacker were the first of their career for each. Theriault got her second assist of the year to go with 7 goals to lead the team and Andersson has 2 shutouts on the year to lead the team.
The Knights will travel to Lawrenceville, GA to take on Georgia Gwinnett on Friday September 21 at 7PM before they open SSAC play on Thursday the 27th at homoe against Bethel University (TN).
