Seven Women's Soccer Members Earn SSAC Awards

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Knights women's soccer team had seven players earn a total of 10 awards at the Southern States Athletic Conference's (SSAC) awards banquet on Tuesday, a day before the team faces #1 William Carey University in the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship.

Ronja Andersson was named to the 1st Team All-Conference at goal keeper after earning 5 SSAC Defensive Player of the Week awards this season.  She had 111 saves on the season and 7 shutouts while playing more than 75% of the team's two additional shutouts.  Starting all 19 games for the team so far, she compiled a record of 9-7-3 allowing 1.55 goals per game.  Against teams not ranked in the top 7 in the nation currently, she gave up a total of 12 goals in 15 games incuding 5 straight shutouts to finish the regular season and the opening round of the SSAC Championships.

Hannah Theriault was named to the 2nd Team All-SSAC and the All-Freshman Team.  Theriault led the team in goals with 14 and added 4 assists for a total of 32 points on the season.  She ranks 21st in the NAIA in Game Winning Goals with 5 and 45th in Goals.  She ranks 8th in the SSAC in Points Per Game with 1.68, 5th in Goals, and tied for 2nd in Game Winning Goals.

Anna Hieronymus was also named to the 2nd Team All-Conference and All-Academic Team.  Hieronymus is a defender who scored a goal and an assist this season.  The All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have a 3.25 GPA or higher and at least 24 hours of earned credit.  Other winners of the All-Academic were Sophie Reynolds, Manuela Bedoya, and Alejandra Wahn.

Miagh Downey was also named to the All-Freshman Team for the Knights along with Theriault.  Downey was the second leading scorer for the Knights with 8 goals and 3 assists for a total of 19 points in 15 games.  She ranked 40th in the NAIA in Game Winning Goals with 4 and earned one SSAC Offensive Player of the Week this season.

The final award went to Manuela Bedoya, along with All-Academic, for the Musco Lighting Champions of Character Team.  Nominated by Coach Vinny Gill, the award is given to one member of each team who exhibits the five characteristics best throughout the season of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
