COCHRAN, Ga. - Middle Georgia State University head men’s basketball coach Scott Moe announced the addition of 9 student athletes for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. The 2019 recruiting class will include 5 juniors, 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen. The recruiting class is Quen Murray, Josue Passius, Jordan Willis, Ijon Owens, Eugene Lamont Ballard, Nick Cummings, Daniel Cooper, Jahwan Smith and Trevon Williams.
Coach Moe on Recruiting Class: “We are really excited about the recruiting class as a whole. We met the needs to be very competitive and compete for an SSAC Championship in 2019-2020.”
The newcomers are:
Quen Murray – 6’6 – F/C – East Georgia State College – Sandersville, GA
Quen Murray is a 6’6 F/C who transfers in from East Georgia State College in Swainsboro, GA. Quen played two seasons at East Georgia for Coach Leroy Jordan. Quen in his sophomore averaged 4.8 PPG and 4.2 REB/G while shooting 56% from the field. Quen had a season high 12 points against Spartanburg Methodist (12/15) and Andrew College (1/19) this year while having a season high 12 rebounds against South Crescent Tech (1/12).
Coach Moe on Quen: “Quen gives us a big presence inside. Will be a very good defender and rebounder in the SSAC.”
Josue Passius – 6’4 – F – Marion Military Institute – Lake Worth, FL
Josue Passius is a 6’4 F who transfers in from Marion Military Institute in Marion, AL. Josue played two seasons at Marion Military for Coach Phillip Stitt. This past season, Josue averaged 11.4 PPG and 7.1 REB/G while shooting 62% from the field. Josue had season highs of 26 points against Snead State Community College (2/18) and 14 rebounds against Enterprise State Community College (11/5).
Coach Moe on Josue: “Josue is a good rebounder and scorer at the power forward position where we lost 2 seniors this past season. Will be counted on to contribute immediately.”
Jordan Willis – 6’2 – G – Albany Tech – Thomasville, GA
Jordan Willis is a 6’2 guard who transfers in from Albany Tech in Albany, GA. Jordan played two seasons at Albany Tech for Coach Sylvester Patterson. In his sophomore year at Albany Tech, Jordan averaged 6.4 PPG and 2.9 REB/G while playing in 11 games.

Ijon Owens – 6’0 – G – Central Georgia Tech – Cordele, GA
Ijon Owens is a 6’0 guard who transfers in from Central Georgia Tech in Macon, GA. Ijon played 1 season at Central Georgia Tech under Coach Reco Dawson where they won the GCAA Men’s Basketball Conference Championship. Ijon played his first season at Andrew College under Coach Jaime Brooks where he won GCAA Freshmen of the Year while averaging 18.6 PPG while shooting 44% from the field and 38% from the 3 PT line. Ijon, his sophomore year averaged 9.1 PPG, 2.1 REB/G and 2.5 A/G while shooting 42% from the field and 41% from the 3 PT line. Ijon had a season high 20 points against Gordon College (1/12) while hitting 6 threes in that game.
Coach Moe on Ijon: “Ijon is a solid guard with great ability to provide scoring at the wing position for us. His JUCO experience will put him in a position to help us immediately.”
Eugene Lamont Ballard – 6’2 – G - East Georgia State College – Statesboro, GA
Eugene Lamont Ballard is a 6’2 wing who transfers in from East Georgia State College in Swainsboro, GA. Eugene played 2 seasons at East Georgia under Coach Leroy Jordan. This past season, Eugene averaged 13.3 PPG and 3.4 REB/G while shooting 40% from the field and 39% from the 3 PT line. Eugene had a season high of 28 points against Georgia Highlands (2/23) hitting 6 threes that game. Eugene had 4 games of 20+ points this season.
Coach Moe on Eugene: “Eugene is a pure shooter who can knock down open shots from deep. Will be a valuable asset with the 3 point line moving back. Has a chance to be one of the better shooters in the SSAC.”
Nick Cummings - 6’2 – G/F – South Georgia Tech – Eastman, GA
Nick Cummings is a 6’2 wing who transfers in from South Georgia Tech in Americus, GA. Nick comes in after playing 1 year under Coach Travis Garrett. In his lone season at South Georgia Tech, Nick averaged 7.5 PPG and 5.3 REB/G while shooting 50% from the field. Nick had season highs of 20 points against Andrew College (1/5) and 12 rebounds against Georgia Highlands (1/9) and East Georgia (3/5).
Coach Moe on Nick: “Nick is a long and athletic slashing wing who will play multiple positions for us. His athleticism and work ethic will allow him to be a good player here.”
Daniel Cooper – 6’3 – G/F – Georgia Southern University – Statesboro, GA
Daniel Cooper is a 6’3 wing who transfers in from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. Daniel played 1 years at Georgia Southern under Head Coach Mark Byington. Daniel played high school at Statesboro High School for Coach Lee Hill. At Statesboro High School, Daniel was named first-team all-region and GACA Class 5A All-State while averaging 17.2 PPG, 4.3 REB/G and 3 APG.
Coach Moe on Daniel: “Daniel has a good offensive game in all areas. Extremely good shooter, can drive and create on offense. Will get better with experience and has a chance to be one of the better shooters in the SSAC.”
Jahwan Smith – 5’10 – PG – Middle Georgia Prep – Kennesaw, GA
Jahwan Smith is a 5’10 point guard who comes to Middle Georgia State after playing one season of prep ball at Middle Georgia Prep for Coach Aaron Tribbey. Jahwan helped lead Middle Georgia Prep to a 34-9 record this season while being a team captain. Jahwan had season averages of 12 PPG, 6 APG and 2 SPG while shooting 41% from the 3 PT line the last two months of the season. Jahwan played his high school career at Kell High School where he was a 1st Team All-State performer his senior year.
Coach Moe on Jahwan: “Jahwan is a true point guard that has the ability to run the team in all areas. Has a great future ahead of him.”
Trevon Willimas – 5’10 – G – Warner Robins HS – Warner Robins, GA
Trevon Williams is a 5’10 G who comes from Warner Robins HS in Warner Robins, GA. Trevon played all 4 seasons at Warner Robins under Coach Jamaal Garman. His senior year, Trevon helped lead Warner Robins to a 23-7 record and a Sweet 16 appearance in the GHSAA Tournament while being named to the 2018-2019 Hypesouth All Middle Georgia Honorable Mention team.
