MACON, GA - Baseball alumni pitcher Preston Sparks finished his college career with 2 seasons at Middle Georgia in 2018 and 2019 and has continued his playing time with the Macon Bacon of the Coastal Plain League earning a spot as an All Star for the Bacon. Sparks has appeared in 5 games for the Bacon having started 4 and is 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA. This season he has thrown 28 innings and struck out 23 batters against just 5 walks and has 1 complete game. He ranks 3rd in the CPL in wins and in ERA.
In his time with the Knights, Sparks appeared in 34 games over 2 seasons with 16 starts going 10-5 with 4 saves and a 3.76 ERA. In his senior season of 2019, he was 6-4 in 15 appearances of which 13 were starts for a total of 76.2 innings striking out 56 batters and walking 21.
Sparks will be a member of the South Division All-Star squad in the 21st CPL All-Star game along with MGA and Bacon teammate MJ Rookard in Savannah, Ga. on July 7 and 8. The event will begin with a home run derby with one player from each of the 6 All-Star squads to determine seeding for the 6 squads then will begin a series of 3 inning games between the teams to crown a champion of the All-Star game.
