COCHRAN, GA - The #17 Knights baseball team took game 3 of the series versus the #20 Reinhardt Eagles by a score of 12-4 to move to 9-3 on the season and is 4-2 in games against ranked teams in 2019. Trent Nash and MJ Rookard both had 3 hits and Zach Cornell had a grand slam in the victory.
The Knights picked up a run on 2 hits in the 1st inning as Nash doubled to open the game for the Knights and scored on a wild pitch. In the second, the Knights scored 6 runs on 2 hits as Tyler Flood singled to score Luke Parks who pinch ran for Chris Burgess. Jacob Durant later scored on a wild pitch and Cornell put the Knights up by 7 with a grand slam. After cruising through the first 3 innings, starter Jason Gifford gave up 4 hits in the 4th but just a single run as he stranded 3. The Knights got another run in the 4th as Robbie Hanlon hit a sacrifice fly to score Bucky McGlamrey for an 8-1 lead.
In the 5th, Gifford walked a runner, got a popout, and a line out before a single ended his day with 4.2 innings and 1 earned run with 1 strike out and 7 hits allowed. Dalton Rentz took over for Gifford to get the 3rd out and strand a pair of runners. The Knights added another run in the 5th on an RBI single by Chris Burgess for a 9-1 lead. The Eagles picked up 2 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 6th to trail 9-3 while the Knights got a run in the bootm of the 6th to take the lead to 10-3. Neither team scored in the 7th and the Eagles added a run in the 8th.
In the bottom of the 8th, Blake Jackson hit his 6th home run of the season with a 2-run shot to left and a 12-4 lead. Tyler Goddard struck out the side in the top of the 9th to close out the game with a 12-4 win.
The Knights will host #3 Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday, February 27 at 3 PM at Stuckey Field in Cochran and open SSAC play against Loyola University on with a pair of games on Friday the 1st of March and a single game on Saturday the 2nd.
