COCHRAN, GA - The Knigths' baseball team won their 14th straight game as they swept the Blue Mountain College Toppers by taking game 3 of the series 8-2. The win puts the Knights at 22-3 on the season and 9-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play. Jason Gifford got the win for the Knights with 6.0 innings of work and 7 strike outs allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks with a single unearned run. Zach Cornell, Luke Parks, and Jacob Durant each had 3 hits for the Knights as they out hit the Toppers 15-6.
The Knights struck first in the bottom of the 1st with Cornell's RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly by MJ Rookard for an early 2-0 lead. Gifford allowed only two base runners in the first 4 innings (a hit and a walk) cruising to the 5th. The Knights scored 5 in the bottom of the 4th with 6 hits as Blake Jackson had an RBI ground out followed by RIB singles from Cornell, Guner Sellers, and Luke Parks. Chris Burgess reached on an error and drove in the 5th run of the inning for a 7-0 lead. The Toppers finllay got on the board in the 5th win a pair of hits and an error by the Knights to make it 7-1. The Toppers got a second run in the 7th on a bases loaded double play that drove in a run to make it 7-2. In the bottom of 7, the Knights got that run back with a hit-by-pitch, walk, bunt hit, and bases loaded double play ball by Sellers to make it 8-2 after 7 complete. The Toppers stranded 4 runners over the next 2 innings as Devan Harriman came in to get the final two outs of the game.
The Knights' next game is a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 19 when they host USC-Beaufort starting at 2PM. The team will continue SSAC play as they head to Montgomery, AL on Friday, March 22nd to take on #3 Faulkner University (22-6, 8-1 SSAC) for a single game on Friday and doubleheader on Saturday, March 23rd.
