MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - After a 14-game winning stread was ended last Tuesday, baseball has lost 5 of 6 games and 4 in a row after a 9-1 loss to NCAA DII and PeachBelt member Georgia College on Tuesday, March 26. During the first 25 games of the season, the Knights were batting 0.326 as a team and averaging over 9 runs a game but in the last 6 games, the bats have cooled off to 0.237 and averaging just over 5 runs per game. The team ERA has gone from 3.45 for the first 25 games to 10.64 in the past 6.
The Knights jumped ahead 1-0 on Zach Cornell's RBI single in the 1st but the Bobcats scored 3 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd off starter Dalton Rentz to take a 6-1 lead after 3. The Bobcats scored 3 more runs in the 8th as they outhit the Knights 13-3 in the game. The loss went to Rentz and the Knights sent 6 pitchers to the mound, with Cam Bailey throwing 2.1 innings with 3 strike outs and allowing just 2 hits and Tyler Goddard allowing a hit in 0.1 innings. Chris Cuthrell and Kyle Lugar each threw an inning with Lugar striking out 1 and allowing no hits while Cuthrell gave up just a hit.
The Knights will look to right the ship when they host William Carey University Friday, March 29 at 3PM for a single game and a doubleheader starting at 1PM on Saturday, March 30. The Knights record stands at 23-8 and 9-3 in SSAC play while the Crusaders will enter the matchup with a record of 10-15 overall and 5-7 in SSAC play.
