COCHRAN, GA - Baseball started the game out with the William Carey Crusaders on a strike out but the Crusaders got 6 straight hits and a passed ball to score 5 runs in the first for a 5-0 lead. The Knights chipped away eventually tying the game in the 8th and winning 8-7 on a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th for their 24th win and snapping a 4-game skid. The team is now 24-8 on the season and 10-3 in SSAC play as they will face the Crusaders in a doubleheader on Saturday the 30th starting at 1PM Eastern.
After falling behind 5-0 in the top of the 1st, Preston Sparks got a ground out and a caught stealing to get out of the inning. The Knights got 3 hits in the bottom of the inning but scored just one run to cut the lead to 5-1. Jacob Durant hit his second homer of the season for the lone run in the 2nd and cut the lead to 5-2. After getting through the first, Sparks was able to hold the Crusaders to just 2 hits before being replaced in the 6th with 1 out. The Knights got a 3rd run on a Durant RBI single in the 5th but left the bases loaded trailing 5-3. The Crusaders added a run in the 6th and anotehr in the 7th for a 7-3 lead. The Knights got 3 back in the 7th as Beasley singled w ith the bases loaded and an error by the centerfielder allowed a 2nd run to score. A sacrifice fly by Trent Nash cut the lead to 7-6 after 7. In the 8th, Blake Jackson led off with a double and later scored on MJ Rookard's RBI single to tie the game at 7 but a bases loaded ground out ended the inning and headed to the 9th all tied up at 7. Devan Harriman who came on in the 6th with 1 out, got a 1-2-3 top of the 9th to give the Knights a chance. After a line out to 2nd by Nash, Robbie Hanlon was hit-by-pitch and Jackson walked to bring up Cornell who singled up the middle for the game winning hit. Harriman got the win going 3.2 innings and allowing just 1 earned run, a walk, and 4 hits with 1 strike out.
The Knights host the Crusaders on Saturday at 1PM at Stuckey Field in Cochran, GA to finish the 3-game series.
