Baseball Sweeps Crusaders in 3-Game Series

COCHRAN, GA - Baseball started a new winning streak of 3 games with a sweep of the William Carey Crusaders.  After taking game 1 Friday the 29th, 8-7, the Knights won 12-4 in game 1 and 11-1 in game 2.  The Knights improved to 26-8 on the season and 12-3 in SSAC play while the Crusaders drop to 5-10 in SSAC play and 10-19 on the season.

Game 1 had Jason Gifford on the mound and after a 1-2-3 first inning, he gave up 2 hits and 2 runs in the 2nd and 3rd as the Crusaders had a 4-1 and 4-3 lead.  The Knights bats came to life in the 5th with 6 runs and 3 more in the 6th for a 12-4 win.  Zach Cornell was 3 for 3 with 6 RBI in the game including a double and home run.  Trent Nash was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 3 runs scored.  Cam Bailey pitched 2 innings with no hits, no runs and 1 walk while striking out 4 to close out the game.  Gifford got the win and is now 4-0 on the season with a 4.74 ERA and leads the Knights with 44 strike outs. 

Game 2 put Kyle Anderson on the mound for the Knights and was schedule for 9 innings but finished in the 7th.  The Crusaders got a run off Anderson in the 1st but that was it as he threw 5.0 innings and allowed 5 hits, 1 earned run, walking 3 while striking out 4.  The Knights answered the 1 in the top of the 1st with 3 in the bottom of the inning, a pair in the 2nd, and 3 more in the 3rd for an 8-1 lead after 3 complete.  The Knights got nothing in the next 3 innings before plating 3 in the bottom of the 7th for the 10-run win.  Blake Jackson was 2 for 3 in the game ending a home run drought of 15 games with his 10th homer of the year to go with 3 runs and 3 RBI.  Cornell was 2 for 4 with a run and RBI while MJ Rookard was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.  Jacob Durant had a pari of RBI, Nash scored 3 runs, and Hanlon a pair.  Cornell had the walkoff single for the 2nd time in 3 games over the weekend.  Anderson got his 1st win of the season and is now 1-1 with a 4.21 ERA and 24 strike outs.  Jackson Braden pitched the final 2 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 4.

The Knights host Thomas University on Tuesday, April 2 at 3PM then are on the road for the next 9 games with a game at Georgia Southwestern on April 3, 3 at Bethel University on April 5-6, a game at Reinhardt on the 9th, 3 at Mobile on the 12th and 13th, then at Georgia Gwinnett on April 16.  The Knights next home games will be April 19-20 as they host Brewton Parker College starting at 3PM on Friday and 1PM on Saturday.  They will host Georgia College on April 23 before finishing the regular season at Martin Methodist before the SSAC Tournament starts on May 1 in Montgomery, AL.
