COCHRAN, GA - The men's basketball team pulled off the upset of #8 Stillman College with a 73-52 win on Saturday, January 12 to improve their record to 9-4 on the season, 4-4 in SSAC play and hand the Tigers their second loss of the season. The Knights were led by Derrell White with a game-high 19 points. Kinsey Burgess had a season-high 15 points and 9 rebounds while Tyrone Young pulled in a season-high 15 rebounds in the win. Kevin Ford led the Knights with 8 assists in the game.
The Knights took an early 5-0 lead with White knocking down a 3 in the first minute and Burgess getting his first bucket in the second minute of the game and the Knights never trailed in the game after that point. The Tigers trimmed an early 7-point lead to 1 at 15-14 at the 9:56 mark of the first half but the Knights continued to shoot well and took an 11-1 run over the nexxt 4 minutes to extend the lead to 11. The Knights went back up by double-digits with a bucket by Burgess with 3:05 left in the first half and led by 14 at the half. In the second half, the Knights opened up a lead by as much as 27 on the way to the 21 point win.
The Knights will be on the road at Florida College (9-6 Overall, 3-4 SSAC), Brewton Parker College (1-12, 0-6), Faulkner University (9-6, 2-5), Blue Mountain College (7-5, 1-5), and Bethel University (11-4, 5-2) over the next two weeks before returning home to host seven of their final nine games at home from January 31 to February 23.
