MONTGOMERY, AL - It was the 7-seeded Knights vs the 10-seed of Blue Mountain College and the game came down to a buzzer beater by Darrell White to give the Knights the 71-68 win and move on in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The Knights improved to 17-11 on the season and will face the 2 seed in 14th ranked William Carey on Thursday, February 28th at 7:15 PM Eastern time, 6:15 PM Central. The Knights were led by Darrell White with 17 points including 3 of 10 from 3-point range in 40 minutes of play. Tyrone Young pulled in his 8th double-double of the year with 11 points and 13 boards while also having a game-high 4 steals. Kinsey Burgess had a season-high 5 blocks for the Knights to go with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Kevin Ford led the Knights with 4 assists.
The teams was back-and-forth in the first half with the Knights leading by as many as 3 and the Toppers by as many as 6 before the Knigths use da 7-0 run to close the half with a 34-32 halftime lead. In the second half the teams were tied 1:40 in, the Toppers took the lead for 1:20 and the Knights gained the lead back with 16:32 remaining and never let it go until the final 25 seconds when the Toppers tied it up. The Toppers fought back from being down by as many as 13 and trailed by 5 with 1:31 to go but Darrell White hit a game-winning 3 as time expired for the win.
The Knights will get ready to face the Crusaders on Thursday, a team they lost to by 3 on the road and by 5 at home and having held the lead late in both games. The Knights will look for the upset and opportunity to move on to the semifinals on Friday.
