Softball Wins 5th Straight With Pair Over Clark Atlanta

COCHRAN, GA - The softball team won their 5th straight game with a pair of wins over Clark Atlanta with a game 1 win 3-1 and game 2 win 10-8.  The wins move the team's record to 8-4 on the season.

In game 1, Meagan Coleman picked up the win after giving up a run in the first, she allowed 5 hits and 3 walks over 7.0 innings while striking out 6.  Caroline Newton hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to give the Knights the lead and win.

In game 2, Clark Atlanta struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st and then another run in the 2nd for a 3-0 lead.  The Knights got 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th on 4 hits.  Savannah Osborne reached on an error which allowed the Knihts to score their firs trun of the game.  Newton drew a walk with the bases loaded for the second run and a 2-run single by Taylor Sheffiled gave the Knights a 4-3 lead.  Emilie Lawrence singled up the middle in the 3rd for the Knights 5th run of the game.  In the 4th, Newton tripled to score Madison Bivins to plate the first run.  A sacrifice fly by Brittany Lawrence and 2-run single by Savannah Osborne plated 3 more in the inning for a 9-3 lead after 4 complete.  The Panthers got a 2-run home run in the top of the 5th to trim the lead to 9-5.  Sheffield added a sacrifice fly for the 10th run by the Knights and a10-5 lead.  In the 7th, the Panthers picked up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors by the Knights to cut the lead to 10-8 before a groundout that ended the game.  Sydney Shackleford threw 7.0 innings striking out 7 and allowing 10 hits, 7 earned runs, and 2 walks for the win.

The Knights face #5 Georgia Gwinnett in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 2 at 2PM for their next contest then open SSAC play by hosting Blue Mountain College for a pair of doubleheaders on March 8-9.
