COCHRAN, GA - Softball took a pair from the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (Canes) on Wednesday the 27th by scores of 3-1 and 5-1. The pair of wins puts the Knights at 20-10 on the season tying their win total from 2017 and only 3 behind their most wins since joining the NAIA for the 2014-15 season.
Caroline Newton earned the win in game 1 going 7 innings with 1 unearned run, 3 strikeouts and allowing just 5 hits with 1 walk to improve her season record to 8-5. Sydney Shackelford got the game 2 win with 7.0 innings and allowing 1 earned run, 4 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 1. Madison Bivins led the team with 4 hits while scoring 4 runs an driving in 1. Margaret Simmons had 3 hits and scored 4 runs with 2 RBI on a 2-run home run in game 2. Newton had 3 hits including a triple and an RBI. Meagan Coleman, Emilie Lawrence, and Brittany Wilt each had 1 hit while Coleman, Lawrence, and Taylor Sheffield each had 1 RBI and Wilt scored the only other run for the Knights.
The Knights are 7-3 in SSAC play and head to #6 Mobile this weekend to take on the Rams who are 27-5 overall and 12-2 in SSAC play. The teams will play a 4-game series with a pair of games on Friday starting at 4PM eastern and another pair on Saturday starting at 1PM eastern. The Knights will be on the road the following weekend at Faulkner University for 4 games before returning home on April 9 to host Brewton Parker then on April 12-13 to host #17 William Carey University.
