MOBILE, AL - Softball took their 20-10 overall record and 7-3 SSAC record into a doubleheader with the #6 Mobile Rams and came out with a split of the games with a 5-2 win in game 1 and 9-0 loss in game 2. The Knights improve their record to 21-11 overall and 8-4 in SSAC play on the season.
Game 1 had the Knights score 3 runs in the 2nd on a 3-run homer by Lauren Heath which was her first of the season and a 3-0 lead. The Rams scored a run in the 3rd on an error and sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1. The Knights got 2 more in the 5th on a 2-run double by Emilie Lawrence for a 5-1 lead after 5 innings. The Rams scored again in the bottom of the 7th on a pair of hits but Caroline Newton got a fly out and pop out to end the game. Newton got the win with 7.0 innings pitched and only allowed one earned run on 5 hits and 3 walks with 3 strike outs.
Game 2 had Madison Bivins lead of with a double to start the game but was stranded at 3rd. The hit by Bivins and a hitin the bottom of the 1st by the Rams waere the only 2 hits until the bottom of the 3rd. The Rams got 8 runs on 8 hits in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 8-0 and added a run on 2 hits in the 4th for a 9-0 lead while the Knights only had 2 hits in the game. Shackelford gave up 11 hits and 9 earned runs in 4.0 innings.
The Knights and Rams play another doubleheader to finish their 4-game series on Saturday the 30th starting at 1PM eastern.
