PULASKI, TN - The softball team had a time getting to Pulaski, TN, as most of the Knights sports teams have had their travel experiences going to play at Martin Methodist College, but game 1 of the 4-game series was a 12-8 win for the Knights over the Red Hawks on Friday the 19th. The win pushes the Knights record to 24-21 overall and 11-14 in SSAC Play.
The Knights scored 2 in the first as Lauren Heath had a 2-run single to score Madison Bivins and Caroline Newton. The Red Hawks tied the game in the 3rd with a pair of runs on 3 hits including a 2-run home run by Sabrina Gilliam. The game remained tied at 2 until the top of the 5th when the Knights scored 8 runs on 6 hits and a pair of errors by the Red Hawks. Bivins go tthe scoring going in the 5th with a 2-run home run, her 3rd of the season then 3 straight singles by Meagan Coleman, Emilie Lawrence, and Heath scored another. An E5 off the bat of Taylor Shaffield allowed another run to score for a 6-2 lead. An E6 off the bat of Brittany Wilt allowed Heath and Sheffield to score then Simmons hit a 2-run home run, her 6th of the season, for a 10-2 headed to the bottom of the 5th. The Red Hawks got a pair of unearned runs on 2 hits and an error to cut the lead to 10-4. Maggie Burkhalter's sac fly in the top of the 6th plated another for the Knights to lead 11-4 and Lawrence's RBI single in the 7th made it 12-4. The Red Hawks responded in the bottom of the 7th with 4 runs on 4 hits but Newton got a pop out and ground out to finish the game at 12-8. Newton got the win to improve to 12-9 on the season going the full 7 innings.
The second game of the scheduled 2 was not started due to rain moving in and was rescheduled as part of a triple header to start at 12 (noon) eastern on Saturday the 20th.
