Softball Wins Pair at Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Softball took a pair of games at Stillman College on Friday the 26th by scores of 4-2 in game 1 and 3-0 in game 2.  The wins put the Knights at 26-24 overall and 13-17 in SSAC play with 2 games to go.  With one win of the two games on Saturday the 27, the Knights can lock in the 6-seed for the SSAC tournament which will be in Decatur, AL on May 2-4.  The knights currently sit a game ahead of Blue Mountain College who they swept in a 4-game series to start SSAC play and provides the tiebreaker if tthe Knights win just one and the Toppers win two.  The Knights are 3 games behind Bethel for the 5 seed with only 2 games remaining.

Game 1 saw Caroline Newton in the circle for the Knights as they jumped to an early 3-0 lead on a 3-run home run by Newton in the 1st and she made it stand.  The Knights got an RBI from Madison Bivins in the 4th as she was 3 for 3 in the game and drove home Maggie Burkhalter for the insurance run.  Newton went 7.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while walking 1 and striking out a pair.  

Game 2 sent Meagan Coleman out for the Knights and she threw 7.0 innings scattering 8 hits with 2 walks and 2 strike outs to get the complete game shutout for the Knights.  The Knights once again put a 3 spot in the first with 4 hits.  Margaret Simmons led off with a walk and Bivins singled followed by a single from newton to load the bases.  Taylor Sheffield came up with 2 outs and doubled to cetner to score Bivins and Newton and Burkhalter followed with an RBI single for the 3rd run.  

The Knights face the Tigers on Saturday the 27th in the final regular season games of the season and will look to have their first winnig season since joining the NAIA for the 2014-15 season and have already surpassed their highest win total since joining the NAIA with 26.
