Hewitt Named New Softball Coach for Knights

COCHRAN, Ga. - Middle Georgia State Knights Athletic's Athletic Director Chip Smith announces the new head softball coach as Rebecca Hewitt who takes over the program after 3 seasons as the head coach at East Georgia State College.  "We are pleased Rebecca has joined the Knight’s staff. She will bring a great deal of enthusiasm, experience, and energy to a quality program and team of talented individuals." Smith said of Hewitt.

Hewitt grew up in Claxton, Ga where she graduated from Pinewood Christian Academy in 2009. Primarily a pitcher but played every position, she was a five year starter earning All-Region and All-State all five years. She played four years of collegiate softball at South Georgia, East Georgia, Coastal Georgia, and USC of Beaufort. She graduated with a Bachelors in Sport Management from Georgia Southern University and a Masters in Coaching as well.  She started coaching while working at Superior Fastpitch Academy giving pitching and hitting lessons and coaching a 12u and 14u travel team for two years. She became an assistant at East Georgia State College for one year in 2015-2016 and was named head coach in 2016-17.

Hewitt takes over a program which went 28-26 in 2019 which was the most wins since joining the NAIA for the 2014-15 season.  She is the 3rd coach of the program in the past 20 years.
