NEW ORLEANS, LA - The men's basketball team went 1-1 on their road trip for the weekend finishing with a 91-86 overtime win Sunday against the (RV) Loyola University Wolfpack after falling to the (RV) William Carey University Crusaders 88-85 on Friday in Hattiesburg, Miss. The win Sunday puts the team at 7-2 on the season and 2-2 in SSAC play.
In the matchup Friday against the Crusaders, Tyrone Young led the team with 24 points and 7 rebounds while Darrell White was second in scoring with 22 for the team. Antony Edwards and De'Miria each had 12 points in the game and Kevin Ford dished out 5 assists. The Knights led by 7 at half time in the game but were outsocred by 10 in the second half. The team was up by as many as 11 in the second half at 66-55 with 10 minutes remaining but by the 8 minute mark, the Crusaders tied the game at 66 taking the lead at 70-66 on a 15-0 run before the Knights could score. The Knights were outscored in the final 2 minutes 8-5.
In the Sunday finale, the Knights trailed by 46-31 at half but outscored the Wolfpack 45-30 in the second half to force overtime. The Knights won the overtime 15-10 to earn the victory. The Knights trailed by as many as 17 at the beginning of the second half before slowly chipping away at the lead until taking the lead with 1:41 left in the game on Young's 3-point shot. The Knights trailed 81-79 in OT but had a 7-0 run to taket the lead at 86-81 to close out the game at 91-86. White had a game-high 26 points while Young (14), Edwards (13), and Ford (11) also scored in double-digits for the Knights. Ford led the team with 8 assists, White had 5 steals, and Kinsey Burgess had 7 rebounds.
The men play their next game at Georgia State on December 29, 2018 at 2PM then travel to Martin Methodist College on January 3, 2019 in Pulaski, Tenn and to Dalton, GA to face Dalton State on the 5th. The team will return home on January 10 against Mobile and 12th against Stillman College.
