Women's Basketball Use Defense to Pick Up Win on Day 1 of SSAC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, AL - The women's basketball knew for the final week of the season they would face the Faulkner Eagles on Day 1 of the Southern State Athletic Conference Tournament and the were ready for the task with a 62-55 win on Wednesday the 27th.  The 9-seeded Knights upset the 8-seeded Eagles, a team they had already beat twice in the regular season and with Faulkner playing just a few miles from their home court.  The Knights forced 31 turnovers by the Eagles and turned the ball over just 8 times in the game.  Joy Sadler led the team with a game-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds for her 8th straight game with a double-double in which she is average 17.8 points per game and 12.1 rebounds for the games.  Gabby Hill added 14 points and Dexshalyn Polite had 13 in the win for the Knights.  Kianna Delas was held to 6 points leaving her 1 point shy of 1,000 career points in her 3 year career with the Knights.

The Knights fell behind 20-16 after the first quarter but outscored the Eagles 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 29-27 halftime lead.  After being outscored 15-14 and seeing the lead cut to 1 at the end of 3, the Knights outscored the Eagles 19-13 in the final quarter using an early 8-0 run to start the 4th to extend the lead and a late 5-0 run to close the win.

The Knights are 11-17 on the season and face #1 seed, 15th ranked Bethel University at 5:30 PM Eastern, 4:30 PM Central.  The winner will move on to the semifinals on Friday.
