Nagele Wins SSAC Freshman of the Year as Women's Tennis Falls in SSAC Finals

MOBILE, AL - The 7th ranked Knights fell 5-1 to the 4th ranked William Carey Crusaders on Friday the 26th as the teams met in the SSAC Tournament Finals.  The Crusaders led 2-1 after doubles were completed and then won 3 of the singles matches to close out the win.  The Knights record is now 11-5 on the season.

After the finals, the SSAC announced the Conference Awards including All-Conference, All-Academic, and Champions of Character Team.  The Knights took home Freshman of the Year while placing four on the All-Conference and six on the All-Academic teams and Laura Cocoma earned the Musco Lighting Champions of Character Team spot.

Maike Nagele took home Freshman of the Year going 10-3 in the #1 singles spot and 11-5 in doubles action at both #1 and #3.  She was ranked 14th in the nation in singles as of the April 10th poll.  She also earned a spot on the All-Conference team.

Along with Nagele, Andjela Rajovic, Luciana Pereyra, and Franziska Nobis each were named to the All-Conference team.  Nobis and Rajovic were joined on the All-Academic Team by Cocoma, Jacqueline Here, Daniela Nino Duarte, and lara Persiani.  

The Knights are currently ranked #7 as of the final regular season polls and await an invitation to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, AL beginning the week of May 13.  The Knights have made appearances in two of the last three season at the National Championships and are looking for their second straight appearance.
