MACON, GA - The Knights women's volleyball program opened their season under new head coach Toafa "Tui" Tuionuu with a 3-0 win over Fort Valley State University followed by a 1-3 loss to Fisk University. The games were the first of the season for the team as they prepare to open Southern States Athletic Confernece (SSAC) play on Friday, September 14 against William Carey at 3 PM and on Saturday the 15th against Loyola (LA) at 1 PM.
The Knights took the first four sets of their season opening with a 3-0 win over Fort Valley then taking the first set against Fisk. The Knights and Wildcats were back and forth in the first set of their match with the Wildcats up 14-12 till the Knights won 9 out of 10 points to take a 21-15 lead then a back and forth match set the final at 25-19. The Knights dominated set 2 opening with the first 6 points and 16 of the first 20 cruising to a 2-0 lead with a 25-11 win. Set three was well played by both sides as the teams were tied seven times through the set with three lead changes and the largest lead by either team at 3 as the final was 25-22.
The Knights faced Fisk University in the second match of the day taking the openin set 25-21 in a back and forth match which saw the Knights prevail. Fisk came back in the second set opening up a 4-0 lead before the teams eneded up tied three times with two lead changes and a final of 25-20. The third and fourth set were also back and forth with the Knights trailing in the 3rd set by as many as seven before tying the match at 16 and again at 20 before falling behind 2 sets to 1. The fourth set was fought hard by both teams with six ties and four lead changes and ended with Fisk making a 9-2 run to close out the match.
