Montgomery, AL - The Knights were back in Montgomery, Alabama as they were set to take on the Crusaders of William Carey University in the SSAC Tournament Final. The Knights were looking to play better against the Crusaders after losing 6-0 in the regular season
First Half
The Knights would have to endure an offense barrage early in the first half as the Crusaders would multiple shots within the first few minutes of the match. The Knights would not get their first shot until the 21st minute. The Crusaders would get on the board first in the 31st minute after a ricochet off the crossbar would be put in the net. The Knights would answer back in the 43rd minute as
Vivien Grosser would head in the goal off of a
Madelief Lammers corner kick to tie the match at 1-1 going into halftime. The Knights were outshot 18-3 in the first half.
Second Half
The Knights would come out of the halftime break looking stagnant as the Crusaders would score two goals in the 54th and 55th minutes to take the 3-1 lead. The Knights would battle back as the deficit would be cut to 3-2 with a goal from
Ellie Richings in the 59th minute. The Knights would have a few more chances in the match and would make the most of them as they would even things up at 3-3 in the 81st minute as
Hannah Theriault would find the back of the net on the Richings assist. The Knights woul get two more shots before the end of regulation but neither could get past the Crusaders goalkeeper as the match would head into overtime.
Overtime
The Knights would have to face three shots from the Crusaders in the first overtime period but none would find the net as the Knights would only get off one shot that would be wide left. The Knights would not have any shots in the second overtime period as they would again face three shots from the Crusaders as their third shot go into the net and the Knights would lose 4-3 in double overtime.
The Knights will have to wait until Monday, November 15th as they await the announcement of the NAIA Opening Round qualifiers to see if their season will come to an end.
