Cochran, GA - The Knights hosted the Bees to open the 2021 season as they looked to return to the form that they have shown over the past two seasons, making appearances in the NAIA Opening Round in both seasons. They were also looking to even up the all-time series against the Bees as they were 2-3-0 going into tonight's match.
First Half
The Knights were playing defense from the start of the game as the Bees would get off the first three shots of the game before the Knights would be able to a shot off from
Alex Chapman that was saved by the Bees goalie. The Knights were back playing more defense as the Bees would continue to put shots toward the goal before
Tatjana Steinau would get off a shot in the 24th minute but was blocked by a SCAD player. The Bees would get off another shot before the Knights would take the last two shots of the half as
Bethan Poole would have her shot blocked and
Hannah Theriault would send the follow-up high and over the goal. The Knights were outshot in the first half 6-4 as they would go into the second half looking for answers to their offensive woes.
Second Half
The Knights would continue to struggle in the second half as the Bees would take advantage of a corner kick and score the first goal of the game in the 49th minute as the Knights would go down 1-0. The Knights would stay on the defensive side of the ball as the Bees continue to push for more goals. The Knights would have glimmers of hope as Chapman and
Madelief Lammers would be able to get off one shot each before the Bees would another goal in the 70th minute to put the Knights down 2-0. The Knights would only get another two shots off before the end of the match, one each by Theriault and Steinau as the Knights would go on to lose the season opener 2-0.
The Knights were outshot in the game 13-8 as the Bees would rack up nine corner kicks to the Knights two. The Knights will look some offensive answers as they are set to host the Skyhawks of Point University on Tuesday, August 31st. That match is set to kick off at 5 PM EST.
