Our summer interview series returns as we ask our Knights head coaches to take a moment and reflect on the past season as well as look at the upcoming season and give us their thoughts. If you are new to the series, we ask our coaches a few questions about the past season and the upcoming season and to share some of their thoughts. Our first coach is Vincent Gill, our Women's Soccer coach.
- How do you feel your previous season went?
Last season, in many senses, was a good season for us. We won more games and more conference games than we had ever won before. We set a shutout record and
Miagh Downey became our leading scorer. Our team made the conference final for the second straight year and who will ever forget that performance in the excruciating loss to William Carey. On the negative side, we did not make the national tournament and I think our inability to beat a top team was the major factor.
- Who were your key departures from last year's team and who are some key arrivals for the upcoming season?
Our biggest losses are our defenders
Anna Hieronymus, Vivian Grosser,
Maria Garcia, plus
Noemy Franco. Three of these had played four years for us and they will be difficult to replace. Looking towards the new year, two All-American candidates
Miagh Downey and
Hannah Theriault return. We also have fifth year seniors
Ellie Russell and
Tatjana Steinau coming back plus regular seniors
Ellie Richings and
Katie Roberts. There is a good experienced core and a lot will be expected of incoming transfer
Grace Reynolds and freshmen
Louise Rosager and
Nicole Beasley. The key will be how the defense gels. The offense will take care of itself.
- What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
The key to the season will be games against Top 25 teams. Keiser, William Carey, St. Thomas, Gwinnett and SCAD-Savannah all loom large and results against these teams will decide the season.
Check back in every few days as we continue our series with our next coach,
Scott Hutchinson, our Women's Cross Country coach.
