Box Score Brunswick, GA - The Knights Volleyball started off their season on Wednesday, August 31st with a trip to Brunswick, Georgia as they were set to take on the Mariners of the College of Coastal Georgia. The Knights have not had much success against the Mariners as every match has ended in a 3-0 defeat. The Knights would start off the first set going down early before tying the set at 8-8. The Mariners would pull away from the Knights to 24-16 before the Knights would win five straight points before the Mariners would get the final point of the set and the Knights would lose the first set 25-21. The Knights would fall behind again at the start of the second set 11-4 but would gain some momentum late in the set as they would tie it up at 21-21 before losing four of the last five points and would lose the second set 25-22. The third set would start with the Knights losing the first three points before scoring the next five straight points. The third set would continue to see a back and forth battle before the Knights would pull away late in the set to win the set 25-21. The fourth set would see the Knights fall behind the Mariners but the Knights would not quit. After falling behind 13-17, the Knights would win seven straight points to take a 20-17 lead and the Knights would hold on to win the set 25-21. This would set up the Knights and Mariners for a fifth set as the Knights looked to start the season off with a solid win. The Knights would win the first two points of the set but would drop the next five points and would never recover as they would lose the fifth set 15-10.
Allison Carter would lead the Knights with 16 kills and would record a double-double with 10 digs.
Ellison Johnson would also record a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs as four players would reach double digits in digs. The Knights will return to their home court as they get set to host a tri-match on Friday, September 2nd as they host the Warriors of Webber International and the Wolves of Wesleyan College. The Knights will take on the Warriors at 6:30 PM EST and the Wolves at 8 PM EST.
