ROME, Ga. The Knights hit the road to Rome, Georgia on Wednesday as they were set to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. The Knights were coming off of a tough loss and looking to come back with a win over a Shorter team that was still looking for their first win of the season.
The Knights found themselves up early as they scored in the fifth minute of the match off the foot of
Javier Gongora Andres, his second goal of the season. The Knights kept applying pressure on the Hawks as they continued to fire off shots but none were successful in finding the back of the net as the Knights held a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break.
The Knights stayed aggressive in the second half as they kept rattling off shots. The Knights were able to draw a penalty kick in the 57th minute but the Hawks goalkeeper was able to save the shot. The Knights found themselves in the same position in the 65th minute and
Samuel Hoyos came through with the goal to put the Knights up 2-0. The Knights only had one more shot for the rest of the match as they played more defense. The defense held strong as the Knights kept the Hawks off the scoreboard to win the match 2-0.
The Knights outshot the Hawks 14-7, 9-5 in shots on goal with
Gracen Vangilder making five saves in the shutout win.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th as the head to Aiken, South Carolina to take on the Pacers of USC-Aiken. Kick off is scheduled for 4:30 PM EST.
