COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back on their home pitch on Wednesday as they hosted the Bearcats of Lander University in the final Peach Belt Conference home match of the season. The Knights were looking to have a better result than their previous match against the Bearcats that saw them surrender five goals in the loss.
The match was a great back and forth battle between the two teams. The Bearcats got off the first two shots of the match in the first couple of minutes but the Knights settled in and had a couple of opportunities themselves. The two teams controlled the ball equally as they each continued to find shots. The Knights were the first to get on the scoreboard in the 41st minute with goal from
Lathan Johnson that was assisted by
Sean McCrudden on the free kick. The lead did not last long as the Bearcats went on the offense and tied the match at 1-1 in the 43rd minute. The match remained tied at 1-1 going into halftime. The second half picked up where the first half left off with both teams keeping the ball and having shots. The Bearcats found the back of the net again in the 68th minute and put the match away with a goal in the 76th minute. The Knights kept fighting to create opportunities but were unable to finish them off as the Knights lost 3-1. The Knights were out shot 20-14, 10-5 in shots on goal as
CJ Wyborn made six saves in the match.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, October 25th as they head to Dahlonega, Georgia to take on the 20th-ranked Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia. Kick off is scheduled for 5 PM EST.
