Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Tuesday, March 11th as they hosted the Hurricanes of NCAA D-II Georgia Southwestern. The Knights were coming off a series of tough games at the Gulf Shores Invitational.
The Knights got off to a slow start as the Hurricanes scored five runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning as the Knights looked to be on track for an early finish. The Knights got two runs back in the bottom half of the second inning on a
Grace Avery two-run single to trail 8-2. The Hurricanes answered back with one run in the fourth inning but the Knights found some offense in the fifth inning. The scoring started with a double steal that allowed
Caroline Albritton to score. RBI singles by Avery and
Mel Bullock closed the gap to 9-5 and a bases clearing triple by
Alexis Cosgrove got the Knights within a run of the Hurricanes. The Knights were unable to find a way to tie the game as the Hurricanes scored four runs in the sixth inning and the Knights lost 13-8.
The luck moved in favor of the Knights for game two of the night. The Hurricanes scored one run in the first inning but the Knights rebounded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a
Carmen Phillips home run and an RBI double by
Kaylee Oliver. The Hurricanes scored three runs in the third inning but the Knights had another answer, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the inning, A double steal allowed
Gabbie Haas to score, a sacrifice fly by
Madison Cosgrove, a two-run triple by
Alexis Cosgrove, and an RBI double by
Caroline Albritton gave the Knights a 7-4 lead after three innings. The Knights continued to score in the fourth inning with RBI singles from
Kaylee Oliver,
Mel Bullock, and
Alexis Cosgrove, as well as a two-run single by
Caroline Albritton put the Knights up 12-4 and in position to force the mercy rule and made the three outs necessary in the fifth inning to win the game. Eight of the starting nine players had a hit with five players having multiple hits.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, March 15th as they hit the road and head to Mount Vernon, Georgia to take on the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
