Knights Shutout Firehawks

Pulaski, TN - The Knights were on the road on Friday, March 21st as they headed to Pulaski, Tennessee to take on the Firehawks of UT-Southern. The Knights were looking to keep themselves well out in front of the SSAC standings with another two wins.

The Knights were locked in a pitcher's duel in the first game of the day. The Knights had a chance to put some runs on the board in the second inning after loading the bases but got no runs out of the threat. The Knights finally broke through in the fifth inning with an RBI double from Gabbie Haas to take a 1-0 lead. The offense was unable to produce any more chances but they would not need any more as Emily Proctor had a career day in the circle. Proctor pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out 14 batters.

The second game of the day would not much more action than the first game. The Knights first threat of the game came in the third inning after a single by Madisyn Riggins and a double by Jenna Kirkland put runners on second and third with only one out but they were unable to push any runs across the plate. A Madison Cosgrove single led off the fourth inning to set up Alexis Cosgrove for a two-run home run to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. The Knights extended their lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning on a Kaylee Oliver solo home run and Proctor would shine in the circle again, throwing another shutout, allowing four hits and striking out eight batters.

The Knights will remain on the road as they head to Blue Mountain, Mississippi for another conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 22nd when they face the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM CDT.
