Knights Sweep Rams to Build Conference Lead

Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on the home field on Thursday, March 27th as they hosted the 21st-ranked Rams of the University of Mobile. The Rams and Knights have built a good rivalry in the past few years and these games looked to follow suit.

The Rams threatened early in the first inning but stranded two runners and they loaded the bases in the second inning but the Knights were able to get out of both innings without allowing a run. The Knights grabbed the lead in the third inning after back-to-back singles by Gabbie Haas and Carmen Phillips set up Madison Cosgrove for the three-run home run. The Rams led off the fifth inning with three straight singles to load the bases but the Knights got the three outs they needed without a run scoring and they held on to the lead. The Knights scored a run in the bottom half of the inning on a throwing error and scored another run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to take a 5-0 lead into the final inning. The Knights kept the Rams from scoring in the seventh inning as they came away with the 5-0 win. Emily Proctor kept her recent hot streak going with the shutout win, allowing eight hits and striking out nine batters.

The second game of the day proved to be just as exciting as the first. After the Rams stranded runners in the first and second innings, the Knights jumped ahead with an RBI single by Grace Avery. The Knights had a great opportunity to open the game up in the third inning with the bases loaded but could not come away with any runs. The Rams scored a run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1 but the Knights regained the lead in the sixth inning with a leadoff solo home run from Kaylee Oliver. The Rams came back in the top of the seventh inning and tied the game at 2-2 and the Knights looked for some magic in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff double by Gabbie Haas and a sacrifice bunt by Carmen Phillips put the Knights in position to walk the game off. Madison Cosgrove did just that with a single down the left field line and the Knights won the game 3-2.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, March 29th as they hit the road to take on the Eagles of Faulkner University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM CDT.
