Cochran, GA - The Knights were back in action on Thursday, April 17th as they hosted the Skyhawks of Point University. The Knights were riding a wave of momentum with a 17 game winning streak and having clinched the SSAC regular season title.
The Knights had a great opportunity in the first inning to come away with a large amount of runs after loading the bases with only one out.
Grace Avery hit a two-run single and the Knights pulled ahead 2-0. The middle of the lineup plagued the Skyhawks as
Mel Bullock came up in the third inning and hit a two-run home run to give the Knights a 4-0 lead. The Knights bats quieted down until the sixth inning with back-to-back singles by
Alexis Cosgrove and
Madisyn Riggins. A throwing error by the Skyhawks allowed a run to score to make it a 5-0 game and a two-run single by
Madison Cosgrove gave the Knights a 7-0 lead.
Kaylee Oliver came up to the plate and delivered an RBI single to force the mercy rule and walk the game off at 8-0.
Emily Proctor continued to be dominant in the circle for the Knights with the complete game win, allowing only two hits and striking out eight batters.
The Knights jumped on the Skyhawks early in the second game of the series as a walk and single set up Kaylle Oliver for a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch allowed another run to score with the Knights holding a 2-0 lead. The Skyhawks had some fight left in the tank as they scored three runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning but the Knights turned things around in the bottom half of the inning.
Caroline Albritton led off the inning with a double and a walk set up
Madisyn Riggins for the RBI single. Another walk by the Skyhawks loaded the bases for
Gabbie Haas to hit a two-run single and give the Knights the lead. A sacrifice fly by
Carmen Phillips and an RBI single by
Madison Cosgrove extended the lead to 7-4. The bats kept striking as
Grace Avery hit an RBI single and Albritton hit an RBI triple. A wild pitch allowed Albritton to score and the Knights had a 10-4 lead after four innings of play. The Knights had a chance to force another mercy rule in the fifth with a lead off walk and a single with
Madison Cosgrove coming up to the plate. Cosgrove would hit the walkoff three-run home run and the Knights won 13-4.
Madisyn Riggins got the win, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out six batters.
The Knights winning streak continues to grow as it reaches 19 games and they will be back in action on Friday, April 18th as they host the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EDT.
