Cochran, GA - The Knights were back on their home field on Wednesday, April 2nd as they hosted the 8th-ranked Grizzlies of Georgia Gwinnett College. The Knights came into the game riding a long winning streak and were looking to notch some key wins.
The Grizzlies jumped on the scoreboard early with two runs in the first inning but the Knights settled in after a rocky start. The game was quick as neither team could sustain any momentum and get any offense started. The Knights found their chance in the sixth inning after
Jenna Kirkland led off the inning with a hit by pitch.
Gabbie Haas came through with a single and a bunt single by
Carmen Phillips forced the Grizzlies to make a play in which the Grizzlies threw the ball away to allow the Knights to tie the game at 2-2. The Knights gained the lead later in the inning with an RBI single by
Grace Avery and they would head into the seventh inning needing three outs to get the win. The Knights got the three outs they needed to get the win.
Emily Proctor got the win after giving two runs on three hits and striking out seven batters.
The second game of the day got started much like the first game as the Grizzlies scored one run in the first inning on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. The offenses for both teams went quiet as neither team would score. After a long weather delay, the Knights put together some offense in the sixth inning. A bunt single by
Carmen Phillips got a runner on base for
Kaylee Oliver to come through and hit a two-run home run. The Knights shut down the Grizzlies in the seventh inning to take the second game and get the sweep.
The Knights winning streak continues to grow as it reaches 13 games and they will try to keep the momentum heading into their next series on Saturday, April 5th when they host the Crusaders of William Carey University. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM EDT.
