Montgomery, AL – The Knights were back in action on Saturday, April 5
th as they finished off their series against the Eagles of Faulkner University. The Knights lost the first game of the series in extra innings and were looking to be on the other side of the result on Saturday.
The Knights got things started in the first inning with a leadoff single by
Yadiel Perez to set up
Tate Abbott for a two-run home run to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. The lead did not last long as the Eagles scored three runs in the first, two runs in the second, and one run in the third to put the Knights down 6-2. The Knights scattered hits throughout the game but were unable to string anything together as the Eagles scored two more runs in the sixth inning and the Knights lost 8-2.
The second game of the day started off slowly as neither team could sustain any momentum until the Eagles scored four runs in the third inning. The Knights got one run back in the fifth inning with an RBI double by
Jose Vargas but the Eagles added three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights continued to attempt a comeback as they scored one run in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice and an error. The Eagles kept the Knights from getting going and scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force the mercy rule and the Knights lost 12-2. Vargas and
Michael Flaherty each had two hits in the game.
The Knights will hit the road again on Tuesday, April 8
th as they travel to Beaufort, South Carolina to take on the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EDT.
