Knights Take the Series in Frigid Showdown

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back in action on Saturday, January 31st as they wrapped up their three game series with the Bulldogs of Union University. The Knights and Bulldogs split the doubleheader on Friday with each team winning by one run. Saturday's game was one for the ages as temperatures hovered around the freezing point with high winds driving the wind chill down into the teens and some snow flurries.

Game Recap

The Bulldogs looked ready to end the game early as they scored one run in the first inning and six runs in the second inning as the Knights trailed 7-0 heading into their half of the inning. The Knights put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run home run from Dayton Taylor and a solo home run from Teonis Pimentel. After the Bulldogs scored two runs in the top half of the third inning, the Knights added three more runs on a passed ball and a two-run double from Sebastian Collender to cut the lead down to 9-7. The Bulldogs answered back with three runs in the top of the fourth inning but RBI singles from Tate Abbott and Collender in the bottom half of the inning got the Knights back within three runs.

The Knights scored two more runs in the fifth inning on another Abbott RBI single and on an error to cut the lead to one run and they tied the game at 12-12 in the sixth inning after scoring on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the seventh inning with one run and the Knights headed into the eighth inning still trailing by one run. The Knights got a sacrifice fly from Mikal Ashley and an RBI single from Abbott and added on more runs due to errors by the Bulldogs as the Knights put up seven runs in the inning. The Knights had a six run lead with only three outs to get but the Bulldogs fought back and put up seven runs of their own as the Knights headed into their final three outs needing to score two runs for the win. In the ninth inning, they would draw a bases loaded walk to tie the game and a wild pitch plated the final run as the Knights won the game 21-20.

Justin Aponte went 5-for-6 at the plate while Dayton Taylor had five RBI and Tate Abbott and Sebastian Collender each had three RBI. Tyler Knight got the win after coming out of the bullpen to record the final out in the top of the ninth inning.
