Softball Earns First PBC Win in Split With Saints

COCHRAN, Ga. - The Knights were back on the diamond on Saturday, March 14th as they wrapped up their series with the Saints of Flagler College. The Knights lost the first game of the series on Friday and were still looking for their first conference win.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first in the second inning with an RBI single from Jada Akeson and a bases loaded walk by Lizzy Vales as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The game was going quickly until the sixth inning when the Saints scored five runs in the inning and the Knights faced a 5-2 deficit. The Knights waited until the seventh inning to get things going as they loaded the bases with no outs. Briana Murray was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run, and RBI single by Madison Cosgrove got the Knights within one run and a two-run single by Kaylee Oliver walked the game off as the Knights won 6-5.

Notable Performances

Madison Cosgrove was 3-for-4 at the plate while Jada Akeson and Mel Bullock each went 2-for-4.

The second game of the day would decide the winner of the series. The game was another quick start with no runs scored by either team until the fourth inning. The Saints scored five runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning, and two runs in the sixth inning as the Knights were unable to sustain any offensive momentum and lost 9-0.

The Knights hit the road for another Peach Belt Conference series against the Cougars of Columbus State University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
