Softball Takes the Series Over Hurricanes

AMERICUS, Ga. - The Knights were back on the diamond on Saturday, April 18th as they wrapped up their series with the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern with a doubleheader. The Knights won the first game of the series on Friday and were looking to come away with more wins.

Game One

The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead over the Knights with two runs in the first inning but the Knights were able to answer back in the third inning with an RBI triple from Nayeli Hernandez and scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2. The Knights grabbed the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single from Jada Akeson but the Hurricanes tied the game in the sixth inning with a two-run home run. The Knights fought back to score a run in the top of the seventh inning on a Caroline Albritton RBI single but the Hurricanes scored again in the bottom half of the inning to force the game into extra innings. In the eighth inning, Madison Cosgrove led off the inning with a solo home run to put the Knights back out in front and they were able to hold on for the 6-5 win.

Notable Performances

Nayeli Hernandez went 4-for-5 at the plate while Madison Cosgrove went 3-for-4.

Game Two

The Hurricanes got another early lead on the Knights as they scored four runs in the second inning. The Knights were able to chip away at the lead as they scored a run in the third inning on an RBI single from Jada Akeson. The Knights scored two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cassidy Ross and an RBI double by Madison Cosgrove as the Knights trailed by one run. The Knights were able to score the tying run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Caroline Albritton but the Hurricanes answered back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs as the Knights were unable to score any more runs and they went on to lose 9-4.

Notable Performances

Kaylee Oliver went 3-for-4 at the plate while Jada Akeson recorded two hits.

What's Up Next

The Knights will be back at home on Saturday, April 25th as they welcome the 3rd-ranked Nighthawks of North Georgia to town. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM EST.
