Tyler Thayer enters his second season with the Knights in 2025-26. In his first season he helped guide the Knights to a historic season which resulted in the programs first NAIA National tournament bid. The Knights also saw an uptick in scoring, offensive rebounding, and FG %. Thayer is responsible for player development and scouting while directing the recruiting efforts for the Knights.

Thayer joined MGA in 2024 after three seasons as an assistant coach at Barry University. Barry appeared in two Sunshine State Conference Championship games and got an at-large bid to the NCAA DII tournament in 2021-22. Thayer also recruited and developed three Sunshine State All-Conference players and one All-Newcomer player as well as nine players that went on to play professionally.

Before joining the staff at Barry, Thayer was an assistant coach at Converse University in Spartanburg, S.C. where he helped recruit and build the startup NCAA Division II men's basketball program. Converse was a historically all-female institution that was transitioning to Co-ed.

Prior to Converse, Thayer was an assistant coach at Independence Community College where he assisted in all aspects of the program and worked with academics and compliance. At Independence, he recruited and developed five All-Jayhawk players and led eight players to NCAA D-I scholarships.

Thayer played two seasons as a member of the Barton College men's basketball team in Wilson, North Carolina. Barton is a NCAA Division II program and a member of the Conference Carolinas. He graduated with a degree in Sports Management from Barton and earned his Master's degree in Sports Management from Barry.
