Knights Advance to SSAC Championship Final

Montgomery, AL - The Knights were in Montgomery, Alabama on Wednesday as they were set to take on the 3-seed Barons from Brewton-Parker College in the SSAC Tournament Semi-finals. The Knights defeated the Barons 1-0 earlier in the season and were looking to do the same in this game.

First Half

The Knights would get the scoring started early as they would score just nine minutes into the match as Ellie Russell would score off of the Madelief Lammers corner kick. The Knights would not stop at just one goal as Alex Chapman would score the second goal of the match for the Knights in the 28th minute. The Knights looked poised to run away with a win until the Barons would get on the board in the 41st minute to make it a 2-1 match at the halftime break.

Second Half

The Knights would look to come out of the halftime break with the same energy that they started the game with but the Barons would take that energy away as the Barons would score in the 47th minute to tie the match up at 2-2. The Barons would score again in the 51st minute as the Knights were left looking for answers on defense. The Knights would find an answer in the 63rd minute as they would tie the match back up at 3-3 off the foot of Anna Hieronymus with an assist from Hannah Theriault. The Knights would not take long to back out in front of the Barons as Miagh Downey would score in the 70th minute with an assist from Katie Roberts to put the Knights up 4-3. The Knights would have to keep the Barons off the scoreboard for the final 20 minutes of the match as Noemy Franco would come up clutch as she would save both shots that she faced to give the Knights a 4-3 victory.

The victory gives the Knights their 13th win of the season, their highest total, number of wins since joining the NAIA eight years ago. The Knights victory propels them into the SSAC Championship for the second straight season as they will face 1-seed William Carey University for an automatic spot in the NAIA Tournament. That match will start at 5 PM EST/4 PM CST.
