Cochran, GA - The Knights were at home this weekend as they hosted the Racers of the University of Northwestern Ohio for a two day series of doubleheaders. The Knights would the scoring started in the first game on Saturday as Rafael Gomez Jr would hit a leadoff home run to start the third inning. The Racers would come back in the fourth inning with three runs but the Knights would score two in the bottom of the inning on a
JT Rice RBI double and a
Justin Brooks RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. The Racers score two runs in the top of the seventh inning and the Knights would have to come from behind to win the first game of the series. The Knights would get one run on an
Andrew Krauss RBI single but would leave two runners on base as they would lose the first game 5-4. The Knights would fall behind early in the second inning after a lead off home run would put the Racers up 1-0. The Knights would answer back as
Carter Lott would hit a two-run home run to give the Knights the 2-1 lead. The Racers would score four runs in the top of the third inning but a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning by
Ryan Wilson would cut into the lead and make it a 5-3 game. The Knights would score again in the fourth inning on a Lott RBI single and
Clayton Smith would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as the game would be tied at 5-5 after four innings. The Knights would break the game open in the sixth inning with five runs on one hit and the Knights would go on to win 10-5.
The Knights would return to the field on Sunday for another doubleheader against the Racers. The Racers would score one run in the first inning but the Knights would answer back in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run double from Wilson and a sacrifice fly from
Derick Stager to take a 3-1 lead. The Knights would score another run in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single from
Brian Herrera as the Knights offense looked to be clicking early on. The Racers would score five runs in the top of the sixth inning as the Knights would fall behind 6-4. A
Blake Metcalfe RBI single in the bottom of the sixth would cut the lead to 6-5 but the Knights would be unable to score any more runs and go on to lose the game. The Knights would fall behind again in the second game of the day as the Racers would score a run in the top of the third inning. The Knights would load the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning as Wilson would hit a bases clearing double to put the Knights up 3-1. The Racers would score a run in the top of the eighth inning but
Caleb Lanoux would be brought in to close the game out and the Knights would go on to win 3-2.
The win on Sunday give the Knights their 250th win in program history since joining the NAIA and the save by Lanoux puts him at the top of the all-time career saves list. The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, February 22nd as they host the Screaming Eagles of Toccoa Falls College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
