Knights Split in Home Opener Against Eagles

Cochran, GA - The Knights opened their home season on Saturday as they host the Eagles of Reinhardt University. The Eagles were receiving votes in the preseason polls and the Knights were looking to show that they could hang with one of the top teams in the country. The Knights would get off to a quick start scoring three runs in the first inning on two hits after two errors on the Eagles shortstop. The Knights would score another run in the second inning after a Logan Blizzard single to lead off the inning and Lauren Heath would hit an RBI single to bring Blizzard in to score to make it a 4-0 game. The Eagles shortstop would make up for the errors in the first inning as the Knights would give up home runs to the shortstop in the third and fifth innings and the Knights would fall behind 5-4. The Knights would get runners to second and third in the bottom of the fifth inning but were unable to drive either run in as they would lose the first game 5-4. The Knights would give up a run in the first inning of the second game but would come back the the bottom half of the inning after an RBI triple by Emma Raulerson and an error by the Eagles would allow the second run to score. The Knights offense would explode in the second inning as they would score eight runs in the inning, capped off by 2-run home runs by Raulerson and Alexis Cosgrove. The Knights would add five more runs in the fourth inning to go up 15-1. The Knights would give up seven runs in the top of the fifth inning but would score in the bottom half of the inning to force the mercy rule and win the game 16-8. The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, February 8th as they travel to West Point, Georgia to take on the Skyhawks of Point University. First pitch will be at 3 PM EST.
