Mount Vernon, GA - The Knights were on the road as they were set to take on the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. The Knights previously played the Barons at the beginning of the season, splitting the doubleheader. The Knights were locked in a pitching duel in hte first game until the Barons would get on the scoreboard with RBI doubles in the fourth and sixth innings. The Knights would get on the board in the seventh inning with an RBI single from
Brody Little to cut into the deficit to make it a 2-1 game. The Knights would score two more runs in the eighth inning after
Brian Herrera would hit into a fielder's choice to score a run and a
Blake Metcalfe RBI double would bring Herrera in to score as the Knights would take a 3-2 lead. The Knights would give up the lead in the bottom half of the inning as the Barons would hit two solo home runs to lead off the inning and the Knights would be down 4-3. The Knights offense would explode in the ninth inning for 10 runs on six hits as the Knights would take the first game of the series 13-4. The second game of the series would look to have some offense after the Knights would get a run in the first inning on a Metcalfe single. The Knights would only get one run as the Barons would come back and score two runs in the bottom of the first inning. This would be the only runs scored in the game as pitching would take over the game and the Knights would go on to lose the game 2-1. The third and final game of the series would see more offense as the Knights would get on the board first with a two-run single from Metcalfe to put the Knights up 2-0. The Knights would give up four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second as they would fall behind 7-2. The Knights would get two runs back in the third inning after
Justin Brooks would score on a passed ball and a
Ryan Wilson sacrifice fly would score another run and the Knights would close the deficit to 8-4. The Knights would cut further into the deficit in the seventh inning as Herrera would hit a two-run single to make it a 8-6 game. The Knights would not have enough gas in the tank to complete the comeback as they would go on to lose the final game of the series 9-6. The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, March 15th as they travel to Beaufort, South Carolina to take on the Sand Sharks of USC-Beaufort. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
