Knights Return to Form in Sweep Over Rams

Cochran, GA - The Knights were on the field this weekend as they hosted the Rams of the University of Mobile. The Knights were coming off of a huge win over Georgia Gwinnett College and were looking to hold on to the momentum going into the conference series. The Knights would get the scoring started in the second inning of the first game with a lead off single from Brian Herrera. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Blake Metcalfe and Andrew Krauss would put the Knights up 2-0 after two innings. The Knights would get another run in the third inning after a Rafael Gomez Jr double would set up Gomez Jr to steal third base and an error by the Rams catcher would allow him to score to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. The Knights would take the 3-0 lead into the seventh inning where the Rams would load the bases. The Knights would bring Caleb Lanoux in from the bullpen as he would record two strikeouts to finish off the game and add to his NAIA school saves record. Jackson Braden would get the win throwing 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits and eight strikeouts. The Knights take the early lead in the second game of the series with one run in the first inning on a Ryan Wilson RBI groundout. The scoring would continue into the second inning with Metcalfe hitting an RBI double and Krauss knocking a two run home run and a wild pitch would allow Gomez JR to score later in the inning as the Knights would have a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Rams would score three runs in the third inning to close the deficit to 5-3. The Knights would blow the game open in the fifth inning as they would score eight runs on six hits and one error, highlighted by a Wilson grand slam as the Knights would go ahead 13-3. The Rams would score two runs in the sixth inning but the Knights would score two runs in the eighth inning after a Derick Stager lead off home run and Justin Smith would score the winning run after a run down with runners on the corners. The Knights would go into the final game of the series looking to complete the sweep. The Knights would fall behind in the first inning after the Rams would score two runs in the top half of the inning but the Knights would quickly erase the deficit as they would score five runs in the bottom half of the inning after two run doubles from Wilson and Stager and an RBI groundout from Metcalfe would put the Knights ahead 5-2. The Rams would score a run in the third inning but the Knights would score two runs in the sixth inning after a lead off single from Justin Brooks would set up Wilson for the two run home run and the Knights would grab a 7-3 lead and win by the same score. The wins give the Knights a 28-15-1, 11-10 SSAC record as they head into the final weekend of the regular season as they host the Eagles of Faulkner University on Thursday, April 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM EST.
