Knights Take Two of Three From Toppers

Cochran, GA - The Knights welcomed the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University to Cochran, Georgia on Friday as they were set to play a three game series this past weekend. The Knights and Toppers would play one game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday as rain would force the schedule change. The Knights would get the first game of the series started off well as they would score five runs in the first inning as Andrew Krauss would hit an RBI double to start the scoring. A wild pitch with the bases loaded would bring in another run and a two-run single from Brian Herrera would grow the lead. JT Rice would hit an RBI double to put the Knights up 5-0 and things looked to be going the Knights way. The Knights would give up two runs in the fourth inning on a home run but would answer back in the fifth inning with a two-run home run from Brennon Williams to put the Knights back up by five. The Knights would give up four runs in the sixth inning but would get three runs in the seventh inning on an Andrew Krauss solo home run and a Rice two-run single and the Knights would be up 10-6. The Knights would give up three runs in the eighth inning but would get one back in the bottom half of the inning on a Jacob Pierce single to go ahead 11-9. The Knights would surrender the lead in the ninth inning after giving up four runs in the top half of the inning as their luck seemed to have run out. The Knights would find a way to get the win after a Rice two-run single and a throwing error would allow Rice to move up to third. A wild pitch would allow Rice to score and the Knights would get the 14-13 walkoff victory. The Knights would come back on Saturday riding a wave of emotion after the highs and lows of Friday's victory and they would score two runs in the first inning on a Pierce RBI double and a bases loaded walk by Herrera. The Toppers would tie the game in the fourth inning on a two-run home run but the Knights would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run double from Ryan Wilson and the Knights would go up 4-2. The Knights would give up four runs in the top half of the seventh inning to fall behind 6-4 and would threaten in the bottom half of the inning after an RBI single by Adam Alicea-Brooks but would only get one run as they would lose 6-5 to set up the final game of the series. The Knights would strike first with a solo home run from Krauss to go up 1-0. The Knights would extend their lead in the third inning with a three-run home run from Pierce to pull ahead 4-0. After giving up one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth, the Knights would get a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning after Williams would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put the Knights up 5-4. The Toppers would score one run in the sixth to tie the game back up at 5-5 but the Knights would lock in for the seventh inning with seven runs in the inning with a Derick Stager three-run home run being the highlight of the inning and the Knights would go up 12-5. Gabriel Dyar would shut down the Toppers in the final two innings to get the victory for the Knights. Dyar pitched four innings, allowing no runs on three hits. The Knights move to 14-13, 4-5 SSAC on the season as they will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21st as they travel to Mount Vernon, Georgia to take on the Barons of Brewton-Parker College in a two-game non-conference mid-week series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM EST.
