Cochran, GA - The Knights were on their home field on Friday and Saturday as they hosted the Tornadoes of Talladega College. The Knights were starting to find their momentum as they had won four straight games and were looking to continue their hot streak. The Knights would get hot early as they would score five runs in the second inning on a two-run home run from
Jaiden Duarte and a three-run home run from
Jacob Pierce to put them ahead 5-0. The offense would go quiet for the rest of the game but the Knights pitching and defense would pick up the slack as the Knights would only give up runs in the fourth and ninth innings and the Knights would win the first game of the series 5-2.
Hunter Varnadoe would come away with the win, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 batters. The Knights would come back on Saturday to play two games as the offense would get hot. The Knights would start the second game of the series by giving up five runs in the first inning but would come back in the bottom half of the inning to score two runs, one run on a wild pitch and the other on a
Garrett Dennis RBI double. The Tornadoes would score two runs in both the second and third innings as they would go up 9-2. The Knights would not go away quietly as they would score eight runs in the third inning, highlighted by home runs from
Datren Bray and
JT Rice, and the Knights would take a 10-9 lead. Rice would help to extend the Knights lead in the fifth inning with another home run to put the Knights up 11-9 but the Tornadoes would score eight runs in the sixth inning and the Knights would lose the game 17-11. The Knights would go into the third and final game of the series looking to win the series and would score one run in the first inning on an RBI single from Duarte. The lead would be erased in the second inning but the Knights would retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a error that would score two runs and the Knights would take a 4-1 lead. The Knights would add an insurance run in the third inning on a Dennis solo home run but would give up a home run in the fourth inning. The Knights would again answer back with two runs in the fourth inning with a two-run home run from
Ryan Wilson and the Knights would go up 6-2. After giving up runs in the fifth and sixth innings, the Knights would score three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning on back-to-back home runs from Pierce and Wilson that would give the Knights a 9-4 lead. The Knights would get one more run in the seventh on an RBI double from Bray. The Tornadoes would score two runs in the ninth but the Knights would shut down the threat as they would win 10-6. The series win puts the Knights at 22-19, 9-9 SSAC as they will be back in action on Tuesday, April 18th as they host the Skyhawks of Point University. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM EST.
