Knights Get Another Sweep Against Toppers

Blue Mountain, MS - The Knights were on the road again on Saturday, April 22nd as they traveled to Blue Mountain, Mississippi for a series against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The Knights swept the Toppers at home earlier in the season with two close wins and were looking to get two more wins on Saturday. The first game of the series would be much like the previous two games as the Knights and Toppers would be locked in a pitcher's duel. The Knights would score one run in the first inning on an error by the Toppers and that would be the only run of the game as the Knights would win the game 1-0. Madisyn Riggins would pitch the complete game, allowing only four hits and striking out four batters. The second game of the series would see more scoring as the Toppers would strike first with a two-run home run in the first inning but the Knights would strike back in the third inning with an RBI single from Summer Lawrence, a sacrifice bunt by Addison Renfroe, and an RBI double from Christina Zeppa as the Knights would take a 3-2 lead. The Knights would score two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI bunt from Renfroe and a sacrifice fly from Zeppa as the lead would increase to 5-2. The Toppers would hit another two-run home run to cut the lead down to 5-4 but the Knights would add an insurance run in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Lauren Heath and another run in the seventh inning on an RBi single from Alexis Cosgrove. The Knights would take a 7-4 lead and hold on for the win. The sweep give the Knights a 37-9, 21-5 SSAC record as they head into the final week of the regular season. The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26th as they travel to Mount Vernon, Georgia for the final SSAC series of the season when they take on the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM EST.
